I'll leave the telling of the Kate Warne story to Geoff, he being the resident expert on these matters.
As to other matters, suffice it to say that I never QUITE convinced myself of the premise of The Purloined Letter...
- Count Dolby von Luckner
Hmmm... we didn't mention that the girl was Kate Warne? The first female detective in the United States?
Well, she'll turn up again later.
The important thing is that there isn't much record of her life before she became a Pinkerton agent, so she might as well have been spying on Edgar Allen Poe in Baltimore.
