Oh, Poland. It's pretty clear that Frederick had always entertained the notion of carving up a bit of it to make the crazy dalmatian-like pattern of the Hohenzollern territories a little more contiguous. And, to be fair, when the first partition of Poland came around, Frederick took the smallest chunk while Catherine and Joseph II (Maria Theresa okayed it, but it was really Joseph's bag) swooped down and gobbled while the gobbling was good. Most likely, that was to spite England, who he was pissed off at again... which happened not infrequently...
