As far as I know, pretty much every European system of currency in the 19th century was just about this messed up. If I'd thought about it, I would have had them somehow bring Johann Sebastian Bach along so that they could have made this a duet, since "groschen" and "thaler" make up roughly 30% of his letters by mass...

We should probably think up a reason why this is true.
The reason will probably involve time travel.
