It's hard to argue against there having been a good thousand years during which the primarily male-run European community didn't run itself particularly prudently. As much as I ardently would like to blame this entirely on the rise of Christianity, it's pretty clear that the Roman Empire had abandoned the Greek Trajectory a good deal before the popes came along and strangled that beautiful maiden to death, swung her dead body repeatedly against the nearest tree, tied rocks to her feet, and threw her in the ocean.
