An Exciting New Sketch Drive? Indeed! Read on for your chance to get art on the cheap and help a great cause!
As some of you know, and others have guessed, I live in a smallish, unincorporated town in California. Last year, a few of the high schoolers had the very brave notion of staging the first ever Gay Rights Parade that this town has ever seen. What was going to be a march of a dozen stalwart souls down the main street became a gathering of hundreds that had to be relocated to the high school to accommodate everybody. It was a beautiful thing to see, and this year they have plans to do it again.
This sort of thing is terribly important - for the kids, to know that they are celebrated and loved, and for the community, to see that these people aren't Threats to Civilization, but are just neighbors and friends. I took my whole family and a small posse of friends last year and we had a marvelous time, and this year Frederick the Great will have a booth at the event.
The problem is that the event is growing so fast that it is stretching the resources of these kids and their well-wishers, so let's give them some help! From now until the end of May, I'll have this donate button in my chatter box. For $10 I will draw whatever you want (Previous requests can be checked out here!) and mail it off to you, and 100% of that money will be donated to Castro Valley Pride 2012. So let's help out some wonderful students and bring a breath of tolerance to another community!
