We've talked about this before, but just to reiterate, Ethan Allen Furniture just named itself after EA because they thought he was cool, not because he was a renowned Furniture Whisperer. In real life, Ethan Allen divided his time between managing his massive estate, serving the American Revolution, and writing scathing pamphlets critiquing Christianity (this latter a habit he shared with Thomas Paine and, it turns out, the young Abe Lincoln!)
Or is there even the slightest bit of perhaps to the notion that he WAS a great man among the furniture peoples, but his assumption of the responsibilities of the Zeitsgeschlaeger so blotted out that life path that it took a century and a half for his proud work to resurface and receive the public recognition it deserves? Will we ever truly know?
